Pavement licences
As per the Business and Planning Act 2020, we can now issue temporary pavement licences.
This new, temporary, permission allows businesses to place tables, chairs and other temporary furniture on the pavement outside their premises (until 11pm, on any day of the week).
The purpose would be for the consumption of food and drink served from the premises.
All pavement licences issued will expire on Monday 30 September 2024.
Apply for a pavement licence
You can apply for a pavement licence via our online form.
Before you apply, please read our pavement licence guidance notes.
When you apply, you will need to submit a plan, photos and evidence of public liability insurance.
Once you have applied, there will be a seven day public consultation exercise. You will need to display a public notice on the premises, during this time.
This consultation will also involve responsible authorities (for example, Suffolk Highways and the police).
Following the consultation, we have seven days to decide whether or not to grant the licence.
There are conditions attached to the licence, which must be complied with.
Fees
The fee for a pavement licence application is £80.
