Eligibility criteria
You can apply for a licence if you are entitled to use the land as a caravan site. You must hold the necessary planning permission.
Licences will not be issued to applicants who have had a site licence revoked within three years of the current application.
The government have published eligibility criteria you need to meet when you apply for a caravan site licence.
How long does it take for an application to be processed?
If you have not heard back from us by the target completion period of 56 calendar days, tacit consent applies. This means that you are able to act as thought your application has been granted.
Licence conditions
If your application is granted, conditions may be attached to your licence. These conditions might cover:
- restricting when caravans can be on the site for human habitation or restricting the number of caravans that can be on the site at any one time
- controlling the types of caravans on the site
- controlling the positioning of the caravans or regulating the use of other structures and vehicles (including tents)
- ensuring steps are taken to enhance the land, including planting/replanting bushes and trees
- fire safety and fire fighting controls
- ensuring that sanitary and other facilities, services and equipment are supplied and maintained

If your application is refused
If your caravan site licence application is refused, you are able to make an appeal to your local magistrates' court.
If your application was granted - but you wish to appeal a condition attached to your licence - you can make an appeal to your local magistrates' court.
