Larger or additional bins

If you're struggling to reduce your household waste, and your bins are regularly full, you may be eligible for larger or additional bins.

Recycling bin

Larger/additional household recycling bins are provided free of charge.

To help residents recycling as much as possible, we can issue larger/additional recycling bins regardless of the number of residents at the address.

Before applying, please check what can and can't be put into a recycling bin.

Refuse bin

Larger/additional household refuse (general rubbish) bins, if eligible, cost £46.00.

The size of refuse bin we can issue, is based upon the number of permanent, full-time occupants at the address.

Before applying, please check the information below to see if you are eligible. We can not provide a larger/additional refuse bin if you do not meet the criteria.

Addresses in Babergh

  • 1 to 5 residents - 240 litre bin
  • 6 or more resident - 240 litre bin and 120L bin

Addresses in Mid Suffolk

  • 1 or 2 residents - 140 litre bin
  • 3 or 4 residents - 180 litre bin
  • 5 or 6 residents - 240 litre bin
  • 7 or more residents - based upon multiples of bin capacities available

Unsure what size bin you currently have?

The size in litres should be marked on the rim/edge of the bin, or on the top or underside of the lid.

Approximate bin sizes (Height x Width x Depth):

  • 120 litre bin - 100cm (H) x 50cm (W) x 55cm (D)
  • 140 litre bin - 110cm (H) x 48cm (W) x 55cm (D)
  • 180 litre bin - 110cm (H) x 48cm (W) x 73cm (D)
  • 240 litre bin - 110cm (H) x 59cm (W) x 75cm (D)

Please note that we will only empty authorised Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council bins that we have issued to the address.

Larger/additional bins will be clean and useable, but they may not be new.

Smaller bins

We can swap larger refuse (general rubbish) and recycling bins for a smaller sized bin free of charge. For example, if you do not have enough space to store the bins.
