Very sheltered housing

Very sheltered housing schemes offer 24-hour care and support on site to meet the needs of vulnerable older people.

You need to be over 55 and in need of at around ten hours of personal care a week.

Personal care is help with things like:

  • bathing, showering, hair washing, shaving, brushing your teeth, and nail care
  • going to the toilet
  • eating, special diets, and food preparation
  • mobility support
  • medication prompts
  • getting dressed/undressed and help getting in and out of bed.

If you do not have carers but would like to receive support, please contact Social Care Services and ask for a Community Care Assessment.  You should either approach their local office or ‘Customer First’ on 0808 800 4005.

If you are already in contact with Social Care Services or Health, you will need to speak to your key worker.
