Sproughton Nature Reserve
The former sugar beet site at Sproughton (Eastern Gateway Enterprise Park) is the site of an Amazon distribution centre.
However, it also houses a 23-hectare area of natural land.
This includes woodland, ponds, reed beds and a small island where the old river navigation cuts off a meander loop in the River Gipping.
A wide range of flora and fauna has been recorded at the site. Rangers have sighted kingfishers, deer, otters, water voles, bats and badgers.
Cabinet members at Babergh District Council have given the area formal designation as a Local Nature Reserve.
