Corporate Peer Challenge

In March 2022, the Local Government Association carried out a Corporate Peer Challenge.

This sector-led review was performed by seven elected members and officer peers. It gave us the opportunity to validate our direction and approach, as well as test and challenge our thinking for the future.

For our Corporate Peer Challenge, we asked our peer review team to focus on five compulsory areas, and three additional areas.

The five compulsory areas were:

  1. Local priorities and outcomes
  2. Organisational and place leadership
  3. Governance and culture
  4. Financial planning and management
  5. Capacity for improvement

The three additional areas were:

  1. Our approach to wellbeing
  2. The future and sustainability of partnership working between Babergh and Mid Suffolk
  3. Pace and our capacity to deliver

As well as the research carried out beforehand, the peer review team met with over 200 partners, Councillors and Council staff.

Their Corporate Peer Challenge feedback report makes ten recommendations.

The feedback report was welcomed by the Councils - it captures who we are, what our strengths are, and where we have areas of need.
