Chilton Woods
Chilton Woods is a large mixed use strategic development site located on the northern edge of Sudbury, Suffolk. The site has been identified for growth for many years, most recently through an allocation in the Babergh Core Strategy 2014 where the site was confirmed as suitable for housing and jobs creation.
The application reference is B/15/01718 which should be quoted in all correspondence.

Update - 29 March 2018
In accordance with the Planning Committee resolution of 25 October 2017, planning permission has now been granted.

Update - 25 October 2017
On the 25 October 2017, the Planning Committee resolved to grant outline planning permission for the Chilton Woods proposal, subject to the completion of a legal agreement securing a range of obligations as set out under the case officer’s recommendation.
Update - Wednesday 11 October 2017
Following the conclusion of the recent publicity exercise, officers have concluded their assessment of the application and are ready to make a recommendation to Planning Committee.
The item will be heard on 25th October 2017 at the Babergh District Council offices in Hadleigh.

Update – Thursday 14 September 2017
Following our last update, the applicant has submitted further details and environmental information, clarifying matters relating to the Environmental Statement and Environmental Statement Addendum.
There have been no amendments made to the proposal, however the Council would still like to invite further comments from interested persons in light of the additional information and amplifications that have been received.
This consultation period will run for a period of three weeks from today, and so comments will be accepted up until Thursday 5 October 2017.
Additional publicity has been undertaken through the East Anglian Daily Times and further site notices placed around the application land.

Update - Monday 15 May 2017
Following our last update, the applicant has submitted new plans and details that reflect ongoing discussions with the planning team, consultees, and comments received from other interested parties.
All plans previously received remain as submitted, with the exception of the Illustrative Masterplan and Land Use Parameter Plan.
Consequently, the description of development has changed to the following, with changes to the original planning application in bold:
“Up to 1,150 dwellings (Use Class C3); 15ha of employment development (to include B1, B2 and B8 uses, a hotel (C1), a household waste recycling centre (sui generis) and a district heating network); village centre comprising up to 1,000m2 Gross Floor Area (GFA) of retail floor space (A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5), village hall (D2), workspace (B1a), residential dwellings (C3), primary school (D1), pre-school (D1) and car parking; new points of vehicular access and associated works; sustainable transport links; community woodland; open space (including children’s play areas); sustainable drainage (SuDS); sports pavilion (D2) and playing fields; allotments; and associated ancillary works.”
Other information includes an Addendum to the submitted Environmental Statement and an updated drainage strategy.
All of the information submitted has now been uploaded to the planning pages of our website. For ease of reference, the new details are dated 11 May 2017.
Due to the information received, the Council is engaging in a new period of consultation from Monday 15 May 2017, for a period of 6 weeks. If you wish to comment, please do so by the 26 June 2017.

In December 2015, a planning application was submitted for outline planning permission as follows:
Outline application (with all matters reserved except for access) - Erection of up to 1,100 dwellings (Use Class C3 ); 16.4ha of employment development (to include B1, B2 and B8 uses, a hotel (C1), a household waste recycling centre (sui generis) and a district heating network); village centre (comprising up to 1,000m2 Gross Floor Area (GFA) of retail floor space (A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5), village hall (D2), workspace (B1a), residential dwellings (C3), primary school (D1), pre-school (D1) and car parking); creation of new vehicular access points and associated works; sustainable transport links; community woodland; open space (including children’s play areas); sustainable drainage (SuDS); sports pavilion (D2) and playing fields; allotments; and associated ancillary works.
The first stage of public consultation on the application has now ended and the applicant is considering how to respond to the issues raised. This will result in further documentation being prepared and submitted in due course. The Council will undertake further consultation on any new material in a coordinated process. At this stage we cannot say when that will commence. The Council will automatically notify all those already involved in the process.
