‘Crucial step’ as key handover marks completion of 67 affordable homes

All 67 affordable homes at Bellway’s Bramford development have now been handed over to Mid Suffolk District Council after councillors picked up the keys to the final two properties, boosting the availability of much-needed high-quality affordable housing in the district.

As part of the council’s ongoing investment in affordable housing, these last two properties on the site will be offered as shared ownership, helping low-income house hunters onto the property ladder.

Affordable housing options on the development are split between a mix of rent and shared ownership, including one and two-bedroom flats, two-bedroom bungalows and three-bedroom family homes, ensuring a variety of homes to meet people’s needs.

On Wednesday 5 August, Cllr Richard Winch, cabinet member for housing and property at Mid Suffolk District Council, and Cllr James Caston, ward member for Bramford, were on hand to receive the keys from Alex Fuller, Bellway’s site manager, and inspect the two new three-bed homes.

The properties have been handed over to the council as part of a section 106 agreement – a legal obligation undertaken by a developer as part of the planning process to ensure affordable housing is provided alongside private sale properties as part of new, growing communities.

Cllr Winch said: “We are delighted to have received the keys to these new properties in Bramford, which will soon become wonderful homes to families taking their first step onto the property ladder.

“Demand for high-quality affordable housing continues to grow, so delivering 67 properties for affordable housing at Bellway’s development is a crucial step to ensuring we meet the needs of those on our housing register or those struggling with the price of the market.

“I wish the future homeowners every happiness in their new homes and I know they will take great pride in calling them their own.”
